Studies show that cigarette smoke causes many diseases such as lung, brain and breast cancer. What is less known are the financial savings that you will make if you quit smoking.

Smokers pay significantly higher premiums on their health insurance than non-smokers. People find that they pay more on health cover over time making it expensive for them. Quitting will not only make you feel healthier it will allow you to save for that dream overseas holiday.

Companies have specific criteria to help them distinguish between smokers and non-smokers. People who consume any sort of nicotine product are classed as a smoker. Cigarettes, pipes and nicotine patches are all known to be smoking products. Customers are considered to be smokers for 12 months after they quit smoking.

You can minimise dental visits and save money if you quit smoking. Smokers often need major dental work as they have diseased gums and serious tooth decay. They will save the National Health Service (NHS) millions of pounds if they take care of their teeth.

Stuart Geddes, director of the British Dental Association Wales said: “The link between smoking and poor oral health is proven.”

Research shows that family pets are also affected by cigarette smoke. Vets claim that your furry friend can suffer from respiratory and lung conditions. The rate of cancer increases in both smokers and their family pet as the smoke produces nasty chemicals that harm them.

Harvey Locke, president of the British Veterinary Association said: “Household pets can become very ill because of their owners smoke in the home.”
